The Tortoise And The Hare

One of my beautiful clients described Pilates so perfectly this morning. She has been attending 1:1 sessions at Infinity for over 4 years now. Persistent non specific back pain led her to try Pilates. As with most people who are recommended to do Pilates she thought she was coming in to “strengthen her core”.

Anyone who works with us knows that’s not what we are about.

We look at all of you and how your body is moving as a whole.

Pilates took her back to basics in her movement and gave her the tools to move better in everything she does - gym work, work work - everything. She’s one of the most amazing people in terms of being responsible for her health and works hard at it (this is key).

She said this morning that you can either train like a tortoise or a hare. The hare will rush into everything, going as fast as he can with little thought for how he is moving. He might ignore any pain or niggles he has and continues training, to his detriment. The tortoise takes his time, he is deliberate and thoughtful with his movements and addresses what’s happening in his body as he goes. He will have the longevity to keep training whilst the hare’s training will be interrupted by injury.

So today my tortoise can run on a treadmill with no pain for the first time in years.

Because she took the time to address her issues and was willing to work on her movement - it’s taken a while to relearn these patterns but she’s now one of the strongest clients I have.

And she moves like a dream.
